5 fantastic albums by trans music artists

As it's pride month, this seems like the perfect opportunity to showcase some fantastic trans music artists.

It's all the more important to support trans members of the LGBTQIA+ community and showcase not only how important they are to the community, but are to arts and culture as a whole.

Also, at the end of the post are some links to UK-based charities to support trans folks.

SOPHIE - Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides

SOPHIE was a fantastic recording artist and producer who influenced dance and hyper-pop music massively. She worked with some iconic artists including Madonna and Charli XCX.

Her album Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides is a transcendent and exciting genre-bending album that showcases, in particular, her phenomenal production talent.

Sadly, she passed away in 2021, but her legacy will live on for a very long time.

Preacher's Daughter - Ethel Cain

Preacher's Daughter was one of the musical highlights of 2022. The album is an Americana and indie rock-infused concept album, which tells the story of a young woman reflecting on her life from the after-life after she was brutally murdered by her lover.

The songs vary from bordering on mainstream pop to goth-rock and is a real journey from start to finish.

Ethel Cain is slowly gaining mainstream success, and you won't want to miss out on the rise of this star.

Lemon Boy - Cavetown

One of the founders of the bedroom pop genre, Cavetown's forth studio album Lemon Boy is a clear representation of Robin Skinner as an artist. Skinner states that the album focuses on the 'negative' side of his personality. The album is a subtle, acoustically driven and easy-to-listen project, especially for those who are big fans of chilled-out indie.

Skinner has also worked with other big bedroom pop sensations such as beabadobee and mxmtoon and is a talented producer as well as singer-songwriter.

Seen It All (EP) - Shea Diamond

Shea Diamond is not only a singer-songwriter, but also an active trans rights activist.

Diamond's full and soulful vocals are the focus of her music, and is perfect for anyone who loves 70s and 80s soul icons like Stevie Wonder, but also modern soulful stars like Lizzo and H.E.R.

Although Shea Diamond is yet to release an album, the Seen It All EP wonderfully shows off her talent as a vocalist in particular.

To Learn - Leith Ross

Leith Ross might not be a household name, but her song 'We'll Never Have Sex' went completely viral on TikTok, and To Learn is the album on which the song features.

Ross is very new to the music industry but has already gained a sea of fans in the indie scene, through their relatable lyrics, whispy vocals, and soft instrumentals. They are definitely one to watch.
